I met Becki Maxson nearly ten years ago. I've asked her to prepare two articles to share with us ways to communicate with others more effectively. Here's the first!
Today you have unprecedented opportunities to communicate with the important people who share your vision and want to support you, but you may be looking for something with a more personal touch.
Email is often ignored or caught in spam filters, and direct mail campaigns can be complex, expensive, and go unopened. There's another way to build strong connections that you may be unfamiliar with, an online service called Send Out Cards (SOC).
SOC is a web-based greeting card and gift service that lets you mail personalized greeting cards right from the convenience of your computer. These are high-quality cards mailed through the post office at a fraction of the price of a store-bought card – and everybody loves to get an unexpected card in the mail. They’re opened every time!
Imagine if you could easily send personalized thank you cards to your volunteers, event guests, and supporters in just a few minutes online, without struggling to find mailing addresses or making a trip to the store or post office. This new print-on-demand technology leverages limited staff time and budget to get truly powerful results.
Simply log onto your online SOC account, select a card from the appropriate category, type your personal message, include photos if you like, add your own signature with one click, choose the recipient(s) from your contact manager, and hit Send. The company then prints, stuffs, stamps, addresses and mails your cards the next day – all for about $1.
The beauty is that you can send one card or 10,000, all with a few clicks, much easier and cheaper than traditional direct mail, and it’s so much more meaningful! You can even send gift cards, gourmet goodies, and a whole selection of gifts.
Monthly subscriptions start for as little as $9.80/month (retail account, about 10 cards) or $31/month (preferred pricing account, about 50 cards). If you don’t need that many cards in some months, no problem, the credit stays in your account for when you do. If you need more cards in some months, just buy extra credits.
We all know that technology is not the point. Convenience and economy is not even the point. Making people feel significant, loved, and appreciated is the point. This new technology is simply a tool to help us build relationships for the long run, and to be a blessing to others every day.
Teachers at Christian schools are using our system to send cards of encouragement to a student from their class each week, while administrators use our cards to reach out to staff, school families, donors, and community contacts.
Churches love the ease of sending cards for birthdays, sympathy, a welcome to new members, missionary support, photo cards for children's ministries like VBS, and the many other uses of a card ministry.
Come try it yourself! You can view a 3-minute video overview at www.sendoutcards.com/20730, then click ‘Send a Free Card’ to try it yourself.
In another article I’ll explain how non-profit and ministry organizations are using Send Out Cards as an ongoing fundraiser simply by using our system and sharing their free member website with supporters. As people receive your cards and want to use the SOC for themselves, your organization could be receiving commissions on every card and gift they send out. Stay tuned for more on that!
