God has granted me incredible opportunities over the 40 plus years. I have met thousands of people and have had countless opportunities to sit in board meetings, visit with donors, and meet some extraordinary people.
I've written about Harold E. Salem one other time on this blog. I was in Aberdeen, South Dakota last week and had lunch with my beloved friend. Harold is 91 years old and just retired a few years ago from the church he had pastored 53 years. Think about that! During his tenure as pastor he began televising his morning services on a couple of television stations in cities of South Dakota. He gradually expanded his television ministry over the years to the point that now there are 59 stations. In addition he is on the World Harvest TV, the Sky Angel satelllite, Direct TV, Dish Network, and the Internet (TLN and CTN). Today there are 132 countries that have access to The Family Worship Hour!
Harold went out and rented a studio where he broadcasts his program each week. No longer in front of a congregation, he "imagines" sitting down in their living room sharing the wonderful truths of God's Word. He told me gift income had increased by 40% and that this year this ministry would raise $1.5 million! When I asked him what he was doing with his money his response was short, "Buy more stations!"
Did I tell you that Harold is 91? He gets up early in the morning, has breakfast each day at the McDonald's Restaurant, and spends all day in the office preparing messages, calling people, and praying. Oh, how I want to be like my dear friend should God grant me 91 years of life. He's my all-time biggest hero. I took his picture (which he was particularly happy about) in the Culver's Restaurant in Aberdeen where we had lunch last Thursday. Here's "my man" and you can look up a station to watch Harold some Sunday morning by just Googling "The Christian Worship" hour with Pastor Harold E. Salem.
Thanks for sharing the remarkable life and ministry of Pastor Salem! Well done are surely the words that he shall hear on that great getting up morning in glory. May his tribe increase!
